Watchity, a Spanish company specialized in technological solutions for the production and distribution of video content, is revolutionizing the broadcast technology market by leading an R&D project that is developing the first virtual producer based on artificial intelligence for live event video production.
The project is part of the Spain Audiovisual Hub initiative, the Spanish Digital Agenda 2025, the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and the Spanish Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research 2021-2023, through the program for R&D projects in the audiovisual and video game sector managed by the “Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico e Industrial” (CDTI).
Generative AI-based technology will become increasingly relevant in the world of broadcast and video production. This technology allows for the creation of images and videos that appear to be created by humans through machine learning algorithms, which opens up a wide range of possibilities in live event production, such as press conferences, training sessions or webinars, and product launches.
The virtual producer being developed by Watchity will have the ability to analyze, understand and interpret the context of the event in real time in order to make production decisions, such as camera switching, activating virtual sets, creating multicamera scenes, or generating 2D or 3D graphics. The platform will include technologies to identify people, patterns of movement and expressions through image and voice, and technologies that will detect objects, among other advanced production systems. This new functionality will be integrated into the Live Studio product.
The project includes the development of the technology and its training through professional broadcast producer so that it “learns” from them, and counts on the collaboration of the Valencian Research Institute for Artificial Intelligence (VRAIN).
According to Albert Rodes, CEO of Watchity, this technology will democratize professional video communication in companies and will represent a switch in the application of video in events. Thanks to the financial support of the European Next Generation EU funds and the Government of Spain through the CDTI, and the collaboration of AI experts, the platform will allow companies to access technology that was previously reserved for professionals in the field, representing a great opportunity for the democratization of video-based communication.
In summary, Watchity revolutionizes artificial intelligence for live video production by developing the first virtual director based on AI, an innovative and promising initiative for the live event sector.
