A completely redesigned Watchity Player that expands customisation, adds audio option and improves performance
Complete rework of the player
Years after building our original player based on hls.js, we’ve rebuilt one of Watchity’s core components from the ground up.
The new player is powered by Shaka Player, offering greater robustness, flexibility, and support for future innovations.
With this upgrade, we’re enabling advanced customization options, full audio support, and a strong technical foundation for what’s next.
New customization options
While we work on adding full UI-based configuration, you can already customize the player through URL query parameters.
Here are some of the available options:
- Background, timeline and hover color customization
- Visibility toggles for features and buttons (simple/advanced mode)
- Custom playback start and end times
- Full CSS-based icon customization

Audio Player
To address the need for an embeddable and shareable audio-only player (e.g., for podcasts or interviews), we’ve developed a dedicated version of the new player with its own user interface.
Customization includes:
- Two main colors, timeline and hover, plus background and foreground
- Dedicated UI with +10/-10 second buttons and playback speed control
- Exclusive cover image support

The new player also includes technical issues that improve both performance and the possibility of future developments with new configurations.
